so....i went to CVS, Target and 2 local other stores this morning that carry the same sorta thing - NO plastic steam iron anywhere. they had metal ones that were $29 at Target. i'm thinking of going to Walmart after lunch. Anyone get one there?

and there's this question i have...do you put the plastic steamer directly ON the hair? like you are ironing it, but you are using the plastic steamer? the dolls hair is so soft after the doll hair salon yesterday, but there are still frizzies and i know that steaming could help.

any advice on where to get the aforementioned steamer?

    thanks,
    kara

Walgreens has a few different ones, if you don't have Walgreens in the east maybe try a different drug store.

we don't have Walgreens here the way you do, since it was started in Chicago. We have a few here and there but none where I live. I've looked at two drugstores, Target, Walmart and Kohl's.

You might also try thrift stores. I got mine at one, it's like a travel one. But it works great one the dolls hair.

I have a conair plastic steamer that I got from Walmart. There is a lint brush type thingy near where the steam comes out and I just gloss that lightly over the hair.

Good luck., I am going to walmart for plastic bins tomorrow and I will let you know... if you cant find one I will pick it up for you.

My water contaninment on the steamer is quite small and compact. It is quite nice but I do need to mention that I went to at least a dozen stores before finding it. Good luck and try Linens and things.

mom_to_an_americangirl, is your steamer a handheld, or the one with the nozzle on the end of the hose? My walmart has the compact one with the hose for $29. I was debating on whether or not to buy it, because on joys restoration album she shows the small handheld. I'm thinking though, the one with the hose might get more use other than just doll hair!!

    I got mine @ Walgreens.
I think someone posted a link to one available online- like walmart or drugstore.com
But then you have to wait for it & Pay shipping.

You kind of will see how to do it once you start doing it. It can take several cycles of water and some patience your first time doing it. (it did for me anyways) Also, it does take out curl so if you want that I think you have to put curlers in while you do it.
Not sure if washing puts it back or not?? Anyone?

It did a nice job on an agot we got on ebay.

Goodluck finding it- I'll see if I can find the link.
    Cheryl
